The creators of our Stained Glass Windows in the William A. Carpenter Chapel came in to update their archives and document the condition of the windows they installed, and have provided us with a nice package of materials to share.

Stained Glass Window Secrets of the William A. Carpenter Chapel

It is no secret that the 40-foot high thematic window (30-feet in the sanctuary and 10-feet in the basement) is a unique piece of Masonic Stained Glass that was installed in 1985 with a plexiglass protective cover. Nor is it secret that it was created by the former Willet Stained Glass Studio of the Germantown section of Philadelphia. What happens on the walls of the chapel, however, is only ever seen by the few who visit the chapel at sunset, when the light changes from yellow to deep red and provides a kaleidescope effect of vivid changing colors. Another secret is how the man who painted the glass signed his work. This was the last window created by Arnold Tilberg, a Ukranian artisan in his 80's who spoke only a little English. His only signature is in the stars and bubbles seen here, and on various panels in the window. Nobody walks away from this window without having seen something that excited or inspired them.
