As of yesterday, April 1, an estimated 30,000+ lawfully present immigrants—including more than 13,600 children—in Sacramento County no longer qualify for CalFresh/SNAP benefits. This includes individuals who are asylees, refugees and survivors of trafficking.

Those currently enrolled in CalFresh will not lose their benefits immediately, but most will be denied at their next recertification, which typically occurs every 12 months.

This change will add to the need in our community at a time when demand for food assistance is already at an all-time high, with families struggling to keep up with rising food and living costs.
