✊ Indigenous leaders from delivered a clear message to Banque Populaire Caisse d’Epargne (Groupe BPCE): banks that finance deforestation are part of the problem!

🇧🇷 In Brazil, deforestation is directly linked to the invasion of Indigenous territories. In 2024, 154 territorial conflicts were recorded affecting Indigenous Lands across 19 Brazilian states. Behind this destruction lie global commodity chains - and European capital financing every link in that chain. 💸

The expansion of soy, livestock, mining and infrastructure is only possible through investments, credit, insurance, financing and financial services that allow large corporations to expand their operations. 🔥

The financial sector’s responsibility is real and urgent. delivered a letter to Groupe BPCE demanding:
🚫 A zero-deforestation policy
🚫 Exclusion of companies linked to land grabbing driven by industry, including meat and soy, and invasion of Indigenous Lands
✅ Full traceability across production chains
✅ Direct dialogue with Indigenous peoples

🚨 New findings show that between 2024 and 2025, seven of Brazil’s ten states with the highest levels of tree cover loss exported leather to the European Union, accounting for nearly 20% of all leather imports from Brazil.

At the same time, over one million cattle were transported from Pará to major leather-exporting states, further increasing exposure to deforestation-linked supply chains. 🫠
