Born in Bensenville, IL, Genevieve “Audrey” Wagner (1927-1984) played for the Kenosha Comets, one of the original six AAGPBL teams, from 1943 to 1949. She started her baseball career at the age of sixteen as a pitcher and eventually moved to outfielder at the behest of Comet’s Manager, Josh Billings. She was awarded Player of the Year in 1948 and was a two-time All-Star Team selection. Following the war, Wagner began playing with the National Girls Baseball League in 1950. While playing baseball between 1943 and 1953, Wagner attended high school and college. Wagner attended Elmhurst College (today Elmhurst University) and moved on to the University of Illinois, where she earned her medical degree. Wanger is part of a permanent display at the Baseball Hall of Fame and was inducted posthumously into the Elmhurst Bluejay Backer Hall of Fame and Fenton High School Alumni Wall of Fame.
A short Q&A will follow the living history performance.
