This is the story of how Precision EMDR complex trauma mapping started.
I didn’t set out to create something different. I was trained during a time when target sequence planning was not really being taught the way EMDR therapists understand it now.
So I started trying to find the patterns myself. A sample of past memories. A decoding process. The meanings that kept showing up again and again.
And then later, when I learned Roy Kiessling’s schema-based target sequence planning, I loved it. But I also loved the larger map I had already been using with clients.
So I kept both. And wove them together.
I did not realize for years that this combination was something unique. But I knew clients felt deeply seen by it. They could look at the map and say: “Yes. This captures everything that would make the difference.”
It wasn’t until recently that it fully landed: no one else was target sequence planning this way.
So I’m excited to speak on the EMDRIA stage again this year. To share a way of mapping complex trauma that lets clients see more than one memory, one symptom, or one schema at a time.
The whole lay of the land.
The trees.
The forest.
The life the client has been trying to survive.

Most EMDR training teaches you to choose targets one floatback, schema, or single symptom at a time.
It works. But it can leave you guessing between sessions: treating fragments, hoping the pieces add up, never quite sure why the results stay partial.
Precision EMDR introduces you to another way: map the whole of how a client’s brain organized their trauma into Memory Networks before choosing a target.
When you can see the whole, you stop chasing symptoms and start working with intention - and the client feels understood in a way piecemeal work can’t reach.
