Week 2 of our Spring Session ๐Ÿ’›

This week focused on building the foundations of music, singing in tune and feeling a steady beat.

A sweet moment was hearing even our youngest babies begin to match pitch in their own way. As we sang together, you could hear their little vocalizations trying to align with the group. This is where singing in tune begins!

We explored duple and triple meters by getting them into our bodies. Movement helps children internalize rhythm while supporting coordination, listening and early language development.

Even our peekaboo activity had a purpose. That playful โ€œbooโ€ helps children anticipate musical timing and respond to cues in a rhythmical silly way.

We also explored rhythm through connection, with parents tapping the beat on their child. This simple purposeful touch helps children feel rhythm while staying connected to their grown-up. We played with both micro beats (the quicker pulses) and macro beats (the steady beat), noticing how younger children gravitate toward the micro beats while older children begin organizing them into the larger beat.

And one of my favorite moments was inviting ideas from our big kids. When children improvise, they are creating, leading and feeling a sense of belonging in our music circle.

And just like that, onto Week 3 ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’›

Week 2 of our Spring Session ๐Ÿ’›

This week focused on building the foundations of music, singing in tune and feeling a steady beat.

We explored duple and triple meters by getting them into our bodies. Movement helps children internalize rhythm, supporting coordination, listening, and even early language development.

Even peekaboo had a purpose. That playful โ€œbooโ€ helps children anticipate timing, respond to cues, and experience rhythm in a joyful and meaningful way.

We also explored rhythm through connection, with parents tapping the beat on their child. That simple purposeful touch helps children feel the rhythm while staying connected to their grown-up. We played with both micro beats, the quicker pulses, and macro beats, the steady beat, and it was so cool to see how younger children gravitate toward the micro beats, while older children start to organize them into the bigger beat.

And one of my favorite moments was inviting ideas from our big kids. When children improvise, theyโ€™re not just participating. They are creating, leading and feeling a sense of belonging in our music circle.
