Summer campfire season is here - keep it safe!
Campfire safety reminders:
• Always use a designated fire ring or pit
• Keep a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher nearby
• Never leave a fire unattended - not even for a minute
• Fully extinguish fires with water, stir the ashes, repeat
• Check local burn bans before you light up
The best campfire is a safe campfire.

If you are cleaning out your garage or basement and find an old, expired fire extinguisher, please do not throw it in your regular curbside trash or recycling bin!
Because they are pressurized and contain chemicals, they can explode or leak in garbage trucks, creating a major safety hazard for our local waste workers.
Local fire stations also cannot accept them.
Where to take them instead:
📍 Broome County Hazardous Waste Facility (at the Landfill, 286 Knapp Rd, Binghamton)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Cost: $5 on regular weekdays, or entirely FREE if you drop it off during one of the county's designated monthly hazardous waste drop-off days!
Stay safe, look out for our sanitation workers, and keep Broome County clean!
