The Diamond Ring effect occurs just before and right after totality. The photosphere of the Sun peeks from behind the Moonβs silhouette through the uneven lunar surface, causing a bright gleam to appear, reminiscent of a shiny diamond ring. It is not safe to view with the naked eye.
This was my image of the Diamond Ring effect from the Great North American Eclipse, exactly one year ago today. 08 April 2024

Mother Nature decided to make up for the clouded out U.P. on Friday with a bright show last night! It started out slow, then exploded just after midnight with pillars and waves over Esky.
