Check out our latest podcast episode: Raising Independent Teens Without Overstepping!
As students transition from middle school to the more independent environment of high school, they need to learn to manage responsibilities and solve problems on their own. While parents naturally want to help their children succeed, stepping in too quickly can prevent students from developing confidence, resilience, and accountability. High School Counselor Kennedy Ursua encourages families to shift from “rescuing” students to supporting them through challenges. She recommends allowing students to experience safe failures, asking guiding questions, and encouraging teens to communicate directly with teachers when issues arise. By working together, parents and school counselors can help students build the independence and life skills needed to succeed in high school and beyond.
