Doing family research before a certain period in the US there is a gap in documents. In 1840 there was a fire in the census office. Sadly the 1840 census was completely destroyed. The land grant record, and wills are not 100% accurate. Also, many people named their children common names; Abraham, John, William, and Joseph and some most popular in my family. In researching there is also the fact that a name can be changed by simply interpreting what they are reading. So for example my family is Hunsaker, I have found them spelled Huntseeker, Hunsiker, and about 15 other version. This makes finding land grants and forms a bit harder. This is the first map of York Pennsylvania my family settled in the beginning with other Mennonite/Dunkards to the Cordorus River. This was a branch of the Ohio River and a main foot path of Indians hunting grounds.
