It will be important for all teachers and educational leaders to understand what can do, how all education stakeholders can use it, and try to reach a consensus on certain parameters for how it may/not be used in specific [scenarios]. The aim should be to view ChatGPT and other emerging technologies as highly potential tools (like spell check, online writing assessment programs, the World Wide Web, digital scholarship, self-publishing, online learning, et al) that can improve learning outcomes if educational leaders and teachers help learners use it effectively, ethically, and transparently.

The November 30 release of ChatGPT, and its abilities to generate, revise, and critique essays, has raised concerns among educators about the promise and perils of AI for writing instruction. We will discuss how these tools work, their affordances and challenges, and the place of artificial intelligence in the writing curriculum.
