For those who couldn’t join us on Earth Day, check out this presentation on a local forestry restoration, recreation and workforce development project outside of Eugene that would provide public access to some of the world's tallest Douglas fir, restore coho salmon, cutthroat trout, beaver and Marbled Murrelet habitat.
The presentation features speakers from the Bureau of Land Management & Oregon Department of Parks & Recreation, with a keynote by Dr Ken Carloni addressing traditional and modern considerations for fire with regard to our 1000-acre project site. Dr Carloni created and managed an innovative, ecologically-informed Forestry program at Umpqua Community College. Since his retirement he has been researching and consulting on the creation and use of biochar on the landscape. Dr Carloni did his doctoral dissertation on indigenous burning practices in the North Umpqua River Valley.
