Square Root Planters

Cut into our first Jestar tomato. Definitely smaller than the rest of the fruit on the vine, but we picked it early. My lady says "not very acidic and all meat and on the sweeter side, not cherry tomato sweet, but close."

Sneak peak of next seasons peppers! In total 4,365 peppers to germinate for the first wave of planting. We still have a few holes to fill, so let us know some weird mild heat peppers you'd love to see next year.

Today was kinda heart breaking. The plus side is I'm working on a few things for next year like PROJECT DAHLIA, cigar plants, azaleas, banana plants, Manhattan lights lupine, and so much more for the garden. I'm thinking about getting some stuff going in September so we can do some fall crop. Most people are burned out by September from gardening but I want to make sure the ones who want fall crop have what they need. So raise your hand and maybe throw in the comments what you would be looking for in September.

And if you're showing off your vegetables or the entire garden on social media we would love to be tagged in it. Tammy wants to make a 4'x3' collage of 'last years gardens.

Ps. We got a load of pepper seeds of a famous pepper geek who had a series on Hulu and Disney to send us some of his prize seeds for next season.

The numbers are in! 2,643 plants found new homes over our 4 day $1 sale!!! Holy roots batman! THATS A LOT OF PLANTS. Another fun number, a total of 16,861 plants have been sold this year, all grown by seed from us. If we add it up it took 3243 human hours to make it all happen. That is 1.55 years of a 40 hour a week job shoved job into 147 days.

But....I think we have about 2000 left... So...

This coming week we will be doing the honor system. We hope to still get $1 a plant. We have updated the FC sheet on our website so no one wastes a trip here. Let's find these plants a new home. Got room at work? Neighbor could use a cool gift? Maybe tell your mom you ran out of room and need her help?

And and honorable mention to Kristal Lawrence for helping us make all this happen. She came in one day and we just knew she should be part of team. When you walk in with a plan and a print out of the FC sheet adoring plants, that's gold. We hope the stars align and she will be part of the team next year, you guys are going to love her.

I'm going to open early tomorrow about 730am if you want to swing by before the regular public @ 9am. We're pretty caught up on the FC sheet. Flowers are all gone, herbs have left the building, and the Poblanos are getting low.

If you guys didn't see my other post I am on the hunt for tomato cages for the elementary school that we are sponsoring their garden. I would love to barter for some tomato cages.

And here is a sneak peak of my current project. I want the variety we have in all the rural towns around us one weekend at a time.

The end is near! Just under 1,300 more plants to get out the door and we will meet our goal. We have tons of inventory left.

We had such a great turnout from The Green Team at Malabon Elementary. I'm honestly shocked how many of these kiddos continue to show up to make this garden possible. I saw so much great character and work ethic in these young people. We planted a lot of food today. As much as Square Root Planters can do, we still need tomato cages for the peppers. If you have any extras laying around, swing by and I will trade you for a plant for every tomato cage you bring. My friends at Eugene Garden & Harvest Center are going to donate the fertilizer for keeping this crop going throughout the season.

Before we even got started there was vandalization to our garden. We hope that the parents in this community can help give their kids something better to do then pull out our plants and stakes.

Anything we can do to protect this garden from harm will go a long ways. Every local little food pantry cabinet that our neighbors have posted on their property we hope to fill throughout the season. Let's get the word out Eugene Weekly.
