This workshop, led by Rev. Dr. Marvin A. McMickle, will examine ways to use scripture in addressing many of the pressing social, political, ecumenical, and personal challenges faced by people in the current national and global context. It will also examine ways by which such preaching can be done during the COVID-19 pandemic through the use of virtual, print, indoor, and outdoor settings.

A two-week advanced preaching course is open to working preachers who want to develop skills and techniques for preaching the good news, using different styles and structures to address different congregational contexts.

Rev. Dr. Gennifer Brooks, Bernice Styberg Professor of Preaching and Director of Styberg Preaching Institute at Garrett-Evangelical, was installed as the president of the North American Academy of Liturgy (NAAL) at its annual meeting in Atlanta, GA, on January 4, 2020. Dr. Brooks is the first Black female president in the history of the NAAL. She gave the vice-presidential address, titled as "Irrelevant Wisdom: NAAL and the Margins." It will be published in 2020 Proceedings, which is the journal of the NAAL.
