Happy Husky Bakery

Hello, all the wonderful friends of the Happy Husky Bakery. Steve and I talk about the great people we had the opportunity to know for the 11 years we were fortunate to have the Happy Husky Bakery.

I still read constantly about dog/cat issues and would like to pass this along to all of you because I found it to be one of the most understandable articles on the topic.

The topic is Cardiomyopathy and Grain-Free foods. That wonderful (sarcastic) article in the New York Times that started a wildfire of fear around grain-free dog food. Unfortunately, the flames were fanned by Vets that should have been doing their own research on the topic instead of buying into the fear.

Those of you who have vets that were into the "take all your dogs off of all grain-free foods" bandwagon. They were not doing you any favors and if they have that point of view you may want to question some other things that might give you pause. They might say "better safe than sorry". That to me says, I am too lazy to read the research myself and see how this affects different breeds and different size dogs. Many of these owners did not need to be fearful of anything. If they are also a vet that told you your dog had allergies, I might really want to take a long look at how detailed they are in their treatment.

In any case, since the fear is still out there, give this article a good read. It really pulls apart the points I made in a handout I made when this first came about. You will see the sources I used and know that I gave this very serious thought. I really think it may relieve a lot of the fear that remains from just a lack of good information or information that is too clinical to understand.

Also, take a look at what is said about food allergies in dogs. Much of it you may remember it is what I said, that allergies in dogs are actually very rate and were lazy vets' "catch-all" diagnoses. Diagnosis given when specific allergy tests or elimination diets weren't even attempted.

Stimulate you dogs brain when you exercise your dog!

It's actually important to let your dog sniff when going on walks. Don't rush!
