Ever wonder who invented the modern day window washing squeegee?

A man by the name of Ettore Steccone. He was born in Northern Italy in 1896. In 1922, after serving in the Italian army during WWII, he decided to come to the U.S. He chose window cleaning as his profession. He was very passionate about it. He was seen driving his motorcycle around town with his ladder on his shoulders and buckets dangling on the end.

At the time, they had steel squeegees that had 12 screws to hold in place a double rubber blade. These were heavy, a pain to change, and left streaks on the windows.

He had a plan for something better.

Many years of planning and changing and he finally applied for a patent for it in 1936. He built them out of his garage. His mother helped as well as two other employees. He knew exactly how the rubber had to be. Not to sticky because it would make it hard to pull across the window, but just right to pull the water off the window without leaving streaks or being too hard to pull. They made sure every rubber that went into every squeegee he made was perfect. People often noticed if they used other rubber, they would all leave streaks.

Everyone loved the squeegee he invented because he put so much thought into it. Not only did they work great, they lasted a long time because he only used high quality materials.

We know this to be true because we still use his squeegees today!
