Herbs have been an important part of Chinese cuisine since the Han Dynasty. Some of the most popular herbs used in cooking are basil, cilantro, garlic, onion, and parsley. Vegetables are also prevalent in Chinese cooking like bok choy, on choy, yu choy, and gailan.

Gua bao is a Taiwanese dish somewhat like the traditional American hamburger. Instead of a beef patty, however, gua bao features braised pork or chicken on a steamed bun. It's a sweet and satisfying finger food.
If you're a fan of seafood, you'll have lots of choices on the menu of a Chinese restaurant. Common types of dishes you might find include crab, scallops, oysters, shrimp, squid, and clams. These are generally cooked with vegetables and served with savory sauces.
Oya Misua or Oyster Vermicelli is a traditional Taiwanese dish that is similar to Taiwanese sweet and sour soup except that it is thicker and starchier. This delicious soup is made of seafood (most often oysters), pork, cilantro, and a dash of minced garlic and/or black vinegar.
