Today is National Donut Day!

National Donut Day, celebrated on the first Friday of June, was established in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor the “Donut Lassies,” female volunteers who served donuts to soldiers on the WWI front lines to boost morale. Originally, these volunteers famously fried donuts in soldiers' helmets, popularizing the treat in America.
