Interviewing people from all walks of life is an honor that I don't take lightly; but there's something special about being able to interview your friends.
Kirsten and I met several years ago on a trip that she was planning to Kenya. Hopping on the tail end of that trip began a friendship and an appreciation for the world that I had yet to experience.
Kirsten is a force of nature, in the very best way. She brings light into every room that she enters and she shares her passions for design, travel, and loving people with such genuine care that you can't help wanting to be a part of it.
Kirsten has inspired me personally, specifically in travel and faith - her ethos of seeing beauty wherever she goes truly is a radical expression of love. But it's not an accident.
Kirsten has lived through a lot she never chose - losing her home in college, caring for a mother who was fighting to hold on, watching plans that made sense on paper fall apart. What she did have control over was the next choice in front of her. Over and over, she said yes to, not always knowing why, but trusting it was the right one.

Barb Higgins joined me in her home in Concord, New Hampshire, where she's lived most of her life, and where some of the hardest parts of it also happened. Childhood sexual abuse. The death of her teenage daughter Molly, after medical staff missed a brain tumor during a 16-hour emergency room visit. Two brain surgeries of her own. Her husband's kidney transplant. And at 57, becoming a mother again.
Barb's own platform is called A Thousand Tiny Steps - which is exactly how she's lived her life. She's chosen to look back at all of the things that have connected her experiences, but to still move forward, one step at a time.
