Behind the scenes at Ridgefield Estate.

One of our favorite spaces in the home isn’t the kitchen, living room, or primary suite. It’s the mudroom.

Before the renovation, there wasn’t a true landing area between the garage and kitchen. We saw an opportunity to create a hardworking transition space that could absorb the realities of daily life while feeling rooted in the architecture of the home.

Drawing inspiration from classical English and New England mudrooms, we introduced this paneled wall to create separation from the kitchen and establish a dedicated zone for coats, boots, bags, and the inevitable daily clutter. A floor to ceiling window floods the space with natural light, while hidden laundry keeps the room quietly functional behind the scenes.

Beautiful homes need workhorses, too.
