The Public Square Is a Classroom

Today, I staged a live structural simulation right here in the digital town square, and the results spoke for themselves.

I want to explicitly credit and thank Race Bannon for his position in true intersectional movement building. When Race shared my narrative, he didn't practice the standard internet habit of intellectual extraction. Instead, he modeled the exact behavior that modern advocacy has lost: he used his platform to amplify historical truth and create a reflective sanctuary for multi-generational solidarity on his timeline.

The contrast between our two streams today provided a concrete picture of the immense work we have left to do.

On one side, we saw how easily engineered amnesia, defensive fragility, and assimilationist "divide-and-conquer" playbooks can be triggered to flatten a community's history. On the other side, we saw what happens when we choose historical rigor, generational grace, and collective memory over knee-jerk, algorithmic reactions.

I held this class in a public forum today because our leadership, our media, and our institutions need to see exactly how vulnerable we are to the systematic flattening of our identities and histories if we do not actively protect them. Securing our future requires the very intersectional blueprint we demonstrated today.

The lesson is complete.
The standard has been set.

From 17 to 48: The Arc of a San Francisco Journalistic Legacy 🏙️✍️

There is a distinct full-circle moment that happens when you look back at where your voice first found its footing. For me, it started at 17 years old, writing for the San Francisco Teen Newspaper. That was the first place I was ever published as a bonafide journalist—a pivotal experience that sparked my journey straight into the journalism program at San Francisco State University.

Over the years, coming through my most recent birthday at 48, I look back with immense gratitude for the platforms across this city that have trusted my voice to capture issues of deep concern, analyze municipal policy, and protect the public interest.

From my early introductions to the San Francisco Bay Times, to being published over the decades in the Bay Area Reporter, the San Francisco Bay View, the San Francisco Public Press, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and the SF Weekly—among others—the mission has never wavered.

That 31-year foundation of dissecting city budgets, tracking infrastructure, and advocating for our communities isn’t just history. It is the exact DNA rooted in the macro-systems work I lead today through Saint Sovereign LLC and SHHSMS LLC.
Whether analyzing digital equity grids or local municipal policy, the lens remains the same: sharp, systemic, and deeply committed to the public good.
