Today, standing in the hallway of the Summit Street Inn — the one that now stretches from the garage entrance I’ve walked through a thousand times — I felt something shift inside me.
The new walls are up. The bones of this place are taking shape again. And in that moment, I realized this isn’t just a renovation. It’s a rebirth. Of a building, yes — but also of me.
This journey has twisted and turned in ways I never expected. It’s been messy, beautiful, exhausting, and exhilarating. I’ve watched pieces of the past fall away and new ones rise in their place. It feels like a birth and a death all at once — letting go of what was, and embracing what’s becoming.
Restoring the Summit Street Inn is more than construction. It’s a restoration of meaning, of purpose, of soul. And I’m finally ready to start sharing it with you.

Tuesday, November 11 is Veterans Day in the U.S. and Europe. Originally called Armistice Day, it began as an occasion to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in their country’s service. It falls on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. In 1954, the name of the holiday was changed from “Armistice Day” to “Veterans Day” in order to recognize veterans of all wars. We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans. It’s an important day to show appreciation. The City of Fairhope celebrates its military veterans with a Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 9. The parade starts at 10 a.m. from the Fairhope Civic Center, featuring local veterans’ organizations, military vehicles, as well as the Fairhope High School Band and Daphne High School ROTC.
