Skipping looking after yourself to get more done is one of the most common things I see.... and the research says it’s actively working against you.
The World Health Organisation added burnout to the International Classification of Diseases in 2019. One of its core features? Reduced professional efficacy. Meaning you get worse at the thing you’re sacrificing your wellbeing for.
Chronic stress physically shrinks the prefrontal cortex over time. That’s the part of your brain that handles focus, planning and decision-making.... the exact things you’re trying to do more of.
Studies show that sleep-deprived people in a calorie deficit lose more muscle and less fat than well-rested people eating the same diet. Tired brains make worse decisions, take longer to do simple tasks, and produce lower quality work.
So that extra hour you’re stealing from sleep or movement or stillness to get more done.... it’s costing you more than it’s giving you.
The data’s pretty clear on this one.
Save this if it explains something you’ve been feeling.

This one is for every woman who has said... “I just don’t feel like myself anymore.”
Here’s something that doesn’t get talked about enough. Estrogen doesn’t just regulate your cycle. It directly influences serotonin... the chemical most responsible for feeling calm, steady and like yourself.
So when estrogen starts to drop in perimenopause, serotonin can drop too. That shows up as anxiety that feels like it came from nowhere. Low mood. Waking at 3am. Just feeling off in a way that’s hard to explain.
Now, I know this is just starting to become a little wider known but the tricky part is... perimenopause can start in your late 30s or early 40s, often years before your period changes (I actually didn’t even know this until my mid 40s). So these feelings get put down to stress or burnout, when actually your hormones are shifting.
The good news is there is a lot you can do. Talking to your doctor, strength training, breathwork, sleep, keeping your blood sugar stable... these all support your hormones and help you feel like yourself again.
Save this and share it with a woman in her 40s who needs to read it.
Also, if you got this far, I’m curious how many of you have felt this.
