☀️🧴 Sun safety was in full swing at the Wellness Center for Older Adults!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, our incredible Educate Before You Medicate (EBYM) team—Dr. Demery, Dr. Han, Amy, Sanjay, Sheila, and Carissa—presented an interactive workshop in recognition of UV Safety Month. Every July, UV Safety Month serves as an important reminder of the risks of ultraviolet (UV) radiation and the simple steps we can all take to protect our skin and reduce the risk of skin cancer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Participants learned about sun safety, proper sunscreen use, protective clothing, and ways to stay safe while enjoying the outdoors. The highlight of the day? Everyone had the opportunity to decorate their own bucket hats with colorful fabric paint markers, creating personalized sun-safe accessories to wear all summer long! 👒🎨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A huge thank you to our wonderful participants for making today’s workshop so engaging and fun. We love empowering our community with the knowledge and tools to live healthier lives—one workshop at a time! ❤️

June is recognized as PTSD Awareness Month, and our EBYM team was honored to spend the afternoon at the Lorton Community Center educating our community about trauma, resilience, and healing. 💚
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pictured are Dr. Demery, interns Sanjay and Sheila, and volunteer Taranjit, who led an engaging discussion on PTSD awareness, trauma-informed care, recognizing the signs and symptoms of PTSD, and ways we can support both ourselves and others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the most meaningful parts of the workshop was hearing attendees share their personal experiences and perspectives, creating a supportive environment where learning and healing could happen together. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this an impactful and productive workshop.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Together, we can reduce stigma, increase understanding, and remind those affected by trauma that they are not alone. 💚

Today, our EBYM team—featuring our incredible interns Nicolas, Sharon, and Sheila, alongside our amazing returning volunteer Taranjit—had the opportunity to present at Lorton Community Center in recognition of Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM)! 👂🗣️💙
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
BHSM is a national awareness campaign led by ASHA that highlights the importance of communication, hearing, and speech health for people of all ages. We loved connecting with participants and making learning engaging and interactive. The audience especially enjoyed our fun charades game following the presentation, proving that health education can be both impactful and fun!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make today such a wonderful experience.

On May 13th, Dr. Donney John represented our team at Governor Spanberger’s healthcare affordability bill signing. Access to affordable healthcare can make a life-changing difference for vulnerable populations, including uninsured individuals, refugees, and underserved communities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are grateful to see continued efforts toward reducing barriers and advancing health equity for all. 💙
