Last week the FM Symphony staff had the opportunity to attend the League of American Orchestras Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

We were able to connect with orchestras across the nation (and even some North Dakota & Minnesota friends), listened to incredible keynote speakers, and gathered new ideas on how to better serve our community and patrons.

We enjoyed the charm and architecture of Baltimore and we can't forget to mention the delicious food. One of the evenings we experienced a celebration of American music performed by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathon Heyward.

We are excited to carry this energy into our 95th season and see you at Symphony Rocks in August!

We are so saddened by the sudden loss of supporter, advocate, and friend of the Symphony, Terry Koppang.

The photo attached is the way many of us knew Terry, sitting in a crowd clapping and cheering, happy to be attending a local live performance.

To share a little bit of the type of person Terry was we wanted to share a quick story. Last spring Executive Director, Lucas and his husband Jordan, were visiting Fargo to decide if they would like to make Fargo their home. They had stopped by the office to talk to staff when Terry walked in. Terry did not know who Lucas was or that he was interested in the Executive Director role, but only knew that Lucas and Jordan were visiting. Terry went into passionate dialogue about how incredible Fargo is, the amazing non-profits he supports, the wonderful people, and especially the live music he attends. He told Lucas he hoped he had a wonderful time visiting and Fargo was the best place to live and left. We joked when Terry left that he was not a paid actor.

That’s the type of person Terry was an incredible advocate for our community, our organization, and our people. All of us at the FM Symphony will deeply miss seeing him at our performances and his friendly face visiting our office. We hope Terry’s memory lives on in the music we perform. Rest in peace Terry.
