Have you been to the beach yet this summer? It’s a great way to spend a day, but it’s always a bit more work than you anticipated. Getting everything—and everyone—loaded into the car can be challenging. Hot dogs? Check. Cooler? Check. Sunscreen? Check!

At Ashley House every kid in our care gets to live their best life possible, to experience many of the “everyday” experiences that other kids enjoy. That includes a day at the beach.

Each summer we take several van loads of kids to the beach for a fun day in the sun. Our beach trip probably includes some things yours does not: wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, medical bags for each child, as well as food, drinks, sunscreen and beach toys. To say nothing of nursing staff, and social workers.

​​​​​​​Our beach trips are a little more work than most, and a bit more costly than most. But the kind of day that creates life long memories for the kids and the staff! You can help! What's been your favorite summer moment so far? We had a great time with friends from The Ability Experience in June. July? It's time to play in the water! We have three "beach" days for the kids, full of sand castles, water splashes and general fun.

Last week, we were inspired by The Ability Experience - Journey of Hope team as they joined us at our Auburn house, spreading joy and laughter with the kids through dinner and playtime.
