Here is a real nice map depicting the designated areas used during Operation Market Time during the Vietnam War. The CGC Bering Strait frequented Danang, Area 2, and Area 9.

One of the guys posted this newspaper article this on his page the other day. It was from February of 1970. It was a very important few days for me in my life. It's hard to forget what it was like down in that cargo hold. Not many people get this type of 'opportunity' in their life. We also a got nice letter from the Commandant.

New pictures just in: The CGC Bering Strait met up with the USS Navasota on 3 occasions while in Vietnam. The first was to highline a couple of crew members aboard on 6/16/70 in Area 2. The second time was on 7/29/70. I'm not sure why we intercepted them but we were on our way back to Subic Bay to get our 5" barrel replaced and we were rounding the southern tip of Vietnam. We had a premature burst just after relieving the CGC Sherman in Area 9. We had fired off 72 rounds in the first hours at Song Ong Doc when the problem occurred. The third time we did an UNREP with the Navasota was on 8-23-70. We lowered the port smallboat and transferred a couple of the crew to the Navasota for FASDU. These pictures came from a sailor aboard the Navasota on 8-23-70. Nice!
