Small restaurants and food businesses are in trouble, and it’s deeper than what the headlines show. Food costs are climbing faster for us than for grocery stores. We’re paying more for every egg, every bag of flour, every bag of coffee and customers are spending less and less and it is turning into a vicious cycle. Small restaurants are backbone of hospitality and the community coming daily are cutting visits and watching every dollar, rightfully so. Even tips are shrinking, leaving our teams to work harder for less.

Chains can weather this storm with bulk buying and deep pockets. Independent restaurants? We don’t have that safety net. Every extra penny on ingredients, rent, or labor slices into margins that were already razor thin. And when a small restaurant closes, it’s not just a business lost, it’s a community gathering place, a this space, a cultural landmark, a piece of our shared story disappearing.

We need direct relief, fairer food policies, and diners who understand that eating local right now isn’t just a nice idea , it’s an act of preservation. If you love the small spots that feed your community, now is the time to show up. Restaurants survival depends on it.
