Strength being "functional" has become a poplar concept in recent years. It's the idea that you're doing movements in the gym that prepare you for life outside the gym.
Nick got to see this first hand with his first month of training. He had done a lot of different training methodologies, but found that Starting Strength was the first one that translated to strength in his daily life and in the sports he plays. Check out the video!

Before training, Phil's knee would swell up during basic tasks: golfing, doing his plumbing work, playing with his kids.
That's no way to live. But after learning to squat correctly and get stronger, his knee feels great and he gets to live his life how he wants.

Tabitha joined so she would feel better and age well as she got older - and so she could keep playfully beating up her kids who are a foot taller than her.
After a six months of training, she has hit an exciting milestone: her first 200lb deadlift. The weight on the bar is important, because that's how we get stronger for daily life. Not just to hit cool milestones. Go !

Foster went to USA Powerlifting Nationals yesterday, set national records in all three lifts - the squat, bench, and deadlift and set personal records on all of them as well. She squatted 110lb, benched 72lb, and deadlifted 182lb!
