Shout-out to and for turning imagination into impact this Halloween. 🎃
Educators can order free Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes, and each includes a personalization kit. Mizzen’s 15-minute activity for grades K-5 goes with them: kids decorate their box with a picture or message about one wish they have for children everywhere, then talk about how kids can help other kids.
Order by October 26 for delivery by Halloween. Boxes ship to US addresses only, and the order link is in our bio.

What’s your program doing for Halloween this year? 👻
From three systems and a database that kept breaking to one place for everything. 📚
That’s the shift at , a nonprofit that offers free one-on-one reading tutoring to elementary students in Birmingham. Their volunteers range from 15 to 90, and no teaching experience is needed because STAIR provides the training, curriculum, and materials.
As the program grew to 19 programs, the old setup couldn’t keep up. Now they run everything in AfterSchool HQ. Families update their own information, staff can quickly pull attendance and volunteer hours for grant reporting, and everyone communicates in one place.
Destiny Askew, their Director of Volunteer Engagement, says her advice to other programs is to use every tool available, even the small ones. Full interview in the link in bio.

Free lessons, seasonal planning tools, gardening guidance, and soil support—all in one convenient place, designed to fit any space.
Farm to Table Kids, Coast of Maine, and Mizzen created this hub to help educators bring gardening into their programs with less work and no need to start from scratch.
Spring gardens get planned in fall. October is a reasonable time to start. 🌱

💻 STEM Next and Apple created TECH Quest, three free hands-on lessons for grades 5-8 in after-school and summer programs. Each one starts with a real community or global problem, and students work out which technology could help solve it.
No specialized equipment needed, which makes it easy to run in whatever space you have. It could also be a good fit for the kids who tune out when a tech lesson opens with how something works.
What's a problem your students already care about that could be a starting point? 🌍 Link in bio to explore the lessons.
