Deers and Stags were very often depicted on pysanky (painted eggs).
The story of the stag is that he carries the sun out every morning from underground into the heavens upon his antlers. The sun is considered his 'heavenly gift', so he represents being charitable and farming, trade, and the development of skills. The stag carries the sun back toward the land of the dead (probably Nav) in the evening, which eventually morphed into the belief that he also carried the souls of the dead, like a psychopomp rather than a Helios figure.
