David Wylie SD12 SREC Committeeman
Let's win elections and then demand what we were promised
What a wonderful in-person convention. The committees met and came up with great results. Registration flowed and people got where they needed to be. The caucuses and general sessions allowed everyone to participate in the process of determining the direction of the party for the next two years.
I want to thank the over 5,500 delegates who made the effort to show up and participate, even if the process wore you down. It’s only by staying involved that we can move things forward.
I also would like to thank the SD12 delegates for choosing me to continue to represent them on the SREC. I hope to continue to be responsive to the Republicans in SD12 and fullfill your expectations.
Thank you all

The SREC met this past weekend for the 2nd quarterly meeting in Tyler.
The first order of business had the Chairman announcing that he will resign effective July 11. This will allow him to re-evaluate his options going forward and puts us in the position of needing to fill the vacancy in the Chairman position at a special meeting on July 11. This meeting will be held at The Shepard’s Church in Lewisville at 2:00pm. It is not often that an SREC meeting is held in our own backyard and we invite everyone to come watch the proceedings.
The candidates that have announced that they are running for the position are Matt Rinaldi from Irving and David Covey from Orange County. We all pretty much know Matt from his history as a state representative in the area and his continued grassroots activism. David Covey is a county party chairman and a member of the SREC. We look forward to answering any questions about either of these candidates or hearing your preference.
Committees
We had our normal committee meetings where the Legislative Priorities Committee began the process of forming an "assessment" of how our elected representatives worked to forward our priorities. We will be getting this to you as soon as it is complete.
The Auxiliaries & Coalitions committee continues to work to engage organizations across the state to work with the party to forward the Republican message.
Jill then took a few minutes with Chairman West to hold a press conference to review the legislative session. Her current Legislative Update is available here https://www.texasgop.org/legislative-priorities-report-6-6-21/.
General Session
There was a Rule modification to rename Auxiliaries to Partnerships so that the TFRW & Texas Republican County Chair Association could participate. Many of the "Partners" then gave updates on the activities they have been working on.
We adopted resolutions calling for the Governor to add our unfulfilled Legislative Priorities to the call for any special session. There was much discussion as to which Priorities had been addressed and which had not. It is our belief that even though Permitless Carry and the Heartbeat bill passed, there were still many bills that addressed our priorities which died in committee. Whether it is the bills for the Abolition of Abortion, banning the child abuse inflicted through Gender Modification, protecting our Monuments, School Choice for All or Banning Taxpayer Funded Lobbying, there is still much work to do. A telling recap of the bills we had identified that were killed in committee is available here: Status of Legislative Priorities - (click on the RPT Priorities tab)
We attempted a motion to get the RPT to re-establish our Gab account but fell short of the necessary numbers to get it passed. There are still some on the SREC that do not understand the difference between supporting free speech in the market place and slinking away when threatened by others.
The issues the RPT faces over the next twelve months are many: the Election Integrity special session, the Redistricting special session, the primaries and next year’s state convention all are in front of us. We all need to be as involved as possible in planning and preparing for these events as well as participating in them at every level.
We have enjoyed serving you the first half of this biennium and look forward to an even better second half.
