This teacher is on summer BREAK! Here’s to more time for slowing down, taking coffee walks in the cool morning sunshine, getting outside for hikes, and PAINTING! I had so much fun with the water reflections on this one. Believe it or not but I have never been fishing myself. I think I would like standing in the river on a morning like the one in this painting.

Did you know that a group of ravens is called an unkindness? However, ravens more typically live alone or in pairs than in large groups. I think ravens are fascinating and consider myself lucky when I do see one hanging around.

Pushing through this painting slump I’ve been in with one of a favorite local landmark: Horsetooth Rock. It’s also been a long while since I’ve set foot on a trail. Here’s hoping to recover a bit of myself once school is out for the summer.

I sketched this painting months ago and then abandoned it because there were compositional elements I didn’t like in my sketch. I decided to just go ahead and paint it last month. Why not? The paper was already marked up. I actually really loved how it looked without the tree (picture 2).
This tree is a limber pine (I think*) at a popular lake hike in Rocky Mountain National Park. The wind can really blow here in winter and I just loved how the foreground windswept rock led into the twisted old tree.
It is currently hanging in the member show at the .gallery in downtown Loveland through the end of the month.

Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates! My sister and I spent our day on the couch cuddling with dogs and watching old Christmas Classics. Here’s to spending the last few days of 2025 cozied up with books, pups, and twinkly lights. Wishing everyone Happy Holidays! 🎄❤️
