Thanks to Modern Optometry for featuring us in this article on innovation and entrepreneurship in eyecare. Our founder, Dr. Fayiz Mahgoub, OD, enjoyed the opportunity to share key lessons that he learned on his entrepreneurial journey.

We are excited to share the results of a cross sectional study conducted at Southern College of Optometry involving our S5 Mini Lens Insertion System™. The study compared the efficacy, perceived ease of use, perceived comfort and perceived safety of the S5 Mini™ to the DMV® Vented Scleral Cup™ which is widely regarded as the gold standard assistive device for scleral lens insertion.

Study highlights include:

- 40 participants who had no prior scleral lens experience/wear were included in the study.
- The S5 Mini™ required 2.8 fewer insertion attempts compared to the DMV® Vented Scleral Cup™ (P < 0.0001).
- The time needed to successfully insert a lens with the DMV® Vented Scleral Cup™ was 50% longer than the time needed with the S5 Mini™.
- Patients felt that the S5 Mini™ is safer, easier to use, more comfortable and had an easier learning curve compared to the DMV® Vented Scleral Cup™.

These results were published during the 2021 American Academy of Optometry meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
