The 15th should feel like the middle of the month, not a payroll tax fire drill.
For many business owners, mid-month means checking deadlines, confirming deposits, reviewing payroll details, and making sure employment taxes are handled correctly and on time.
Running payroll is one thing.
Staying ahead of the payroll tax side is another.
Monthly depositors know the rhythm: the 15th comes around fast.
And when payroll is competing with employees, customers, vendors, and everything else on your plate, one missed detail can create unnecessary stress.
Payroll shouldn’t sneak up on you.
I help business owners stay ahead of payroll, payroll tax deadlines, and the details that keep things moving.
Want payroll to feel less like a monthly fire drill?

Payroll has a lot of terms that sound similar but mean very different things. Let's clear a few up.
Contractor vs. Employee
The difference isn't just a title. It affects taxes, benefits, legal liability, and how you handle their pay. Misclassifying a worker can lead to back taxes and penalties. When in doubt, get it right from the start.
Biweekly vs. Semi-Monthly
Biweekly means every two weeks (26 pay periods a year). Semi-monthly means twice a month (24 pay periods a year). They sound the same, but your payroll calendar, cash flow, and tax deposits work differently for each.
Gross Pay vs. Net Pay
Gross pay is what an employee earns before deductions. Net pay is what they take home. Knowing the difference matters when you're budgeting for labor costs.
Getting these right keeps your business protected and your employees paid accurately.

Payroll is pulling CPAs away from the work that actually grows their practice.
Reconciliations, compliance deadlines, employee questions — it's time-consuming, low-margin, and not why most CPAs got into this business.
I work with local CPA firms who want to stay focused on advisory and tax work while knowing their payroll clients are in good hands — locally owned, locally accountable.
No handoff to a call center. No national 1-800 number. Just a local operator who treats your clients the way you do.
If payroll is crowding your plate, let's talk about what a referral relationship looks like.

Colorado Law Alert! Two Employment Law Updates You Need to Know.
UPDATE 1: VOTING LEAVE LAW CHANGE
Colorado has updated its voting leave law. Employers of all sizes are now required to allow employees to take leave to vote on any day that voter service and polling centers are open, not just on Election Day.
The exception: if an employee has at least three consecutive hours outside of their scheduled work time while polls are open, leave is not required.
Action Item: Review your voting leave policy to make sure it reflects this expanded requirement.
UPDATE 2: COLORADO AI LAW OVERHAUL
The state has repealed the original Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (CAIA), which had required employer compliance by June 30, 2026. That deadline is no longer in effect.
A new version of the CAIA has been enacted with significantly different (and in some areas, less burdensome) requirements. It is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2027, but is currently stayed by the courts pending a legal challenge.
The Takeaway: No action is required by June 30, 2026. However, revised AI-related obligations may apply starting January 1, 2027, depending on how the legal challenge resolves. We are monitoring the situation and will share updates as things develop.
