Over 22 years of observing these responses in vast numbers of students, and this is the most excitable spinal cord tonic vibration reflex we have ever seen. Thank you Azalea for being a willing participant!
Just to be clear, this is the smallest amplitude, very high frequency, vibration that you can imagine, which is causing the stretch reflex circuit to become extremely active, extremely rapidly. Still a mystery as to why some students have very large responses, and others don’t.

A pretty remarkable week in the teaching lab The question is, was Dr. Tracy more excited than Azalea‘s spinal cord, or the other way around?
Tonic vibration reflex lab sometimes produces some unique and fun learning opportunities. The responses you see here are probably 1/500 people.
