The reality of July 4th on our beaches. 🐢💔

Look closely at this photo. Those are boxes of fireworks left on the sand, entirely surrounded by the tiny tracks of newborn sea turtle hatchlings trying to find their way to the ocean.

These tiny turtles already face incredible odds—they shouldn’t have to navigate our dangerous trash to survive. Leaving debris, setting off explosions, and using bright lights on nesting beaches can disorient hatchlings, trap them, or scare nesting mothers away.

We love celebrating, but we have to share the shore. If you celebrate on the beach, pack out everything you pack in. Keep our beaches clean, dark, and flat! ✨

🚫 RESPECT ALL NEST BOUNDARIES - These areas are critical for the next generation of turtles.
🐢 KEEP YOUR DISTANCE FROM NESTING TURTLES - Always stay at least 50 feet away and do not disturb their natural nesting process. A safe distance is key to their success!

Together, we can ensure our beaches are safe and welcoming for both people and wildlife.

Recently, S.T.O.P. was invited to Primer Microschool of Fort Lauderdale to present to grades 3-8 about sea turtle biology, protection, and more on the many ways that they can work towards supporting sea turtle conservation in the future, so that they can inspire change in the next generation of leaders ahead. As every student took the Sea Turtle Protection Pledge as guardians of the sea, we loved every minute of it!
