Please be advised, there is an active tsunami advisory in place for Washington State.

Updated at 10:40 a.m.: The advisory for Washington state has been CANCELLED. At this time there is no tsunami threat to the Washington coast. Check out http://tsunami.gov for more information.

There still may be strong currents so we advise folks to stay cautious if they go near the water. Stay tuned to Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission to see when the beaches will be reopened.

May is Volcano Awareness Month in Pierce County. Mt. Rainier is an active volcano and people need to know how to prepare for an eruption or a lahar - a mixture of mud, water and other debris coming from the mountain.

It’s a horrible feeling when you realize you don’t have the correct numbers to call in an emergency. Make sure you save this information, you may not need it now, but you will when crisis strikes.

Different situations, different numbers! Know when to call (or text) the right number -- from emergencies to mental health support and finding community resources.

And, those of you within the Tacoma city limits also have access to 311 to request assistance with city services!

Key Peninsula residents, if you are interested in getting prepped for emergencies, then meet Pierce County Department of Emergency Management staff at 3 p.m., March 20 at the Key Center Pierce County Library - 8905 Key Peninsula Hwy North, Lakebay, WA 98349.

Learn how to create an emergency plan, build emergency kits for your home, work and vehicles and develop out-of-area contacts. Staff will show you how taking small preparedness steps lead to big results!
