To be fully transparent with the community, the Fort Morgan Police Department is releasing the Monthly Crime Report. While we continue with the weekly blotter, this report shows some overall numbers of activities that show the proactive police work happening each month.

For context, each of the numbers in this report represents something specific. The numbers mean the following:

• Calls for Service – represents all calls that officers respond to or initiate. This includes all the numbers in this report, plus many more.

• Traffic Contacts – represents all contacts with a motor vehicle for a traffic violation.

• Community Policing – represents meaningful interactions with members of the public that are self-initiated by the officer. This does not include interactions as part of any call or routine activity. It is most often a call generated by the officer for business contacts, interactions with kids playing, talking to members of the public, etc.

• Tickets – represents all tickets written for any violation. This could include traffic contacts, dog at large, theft, or even drugs (when misdemeanor amounts are possessed). Many other things are included, which may result in a person being physically arrested or released on a summons.

• Misdemeanor Arrest– represents physical arrests in which at least one individual on the call was transported to the detention center on misdemeanor charges.

• Felony Arrest – represents a physical arrest in which at least one individual on the call was transported to the detention center on felony charges.

• DUI/DUID – represents the number of people arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (or both).

Peeling back the curtain for takes us behind the desk this week as we look into the role of our Records Division.

This team is dedicated to providing honest and accurate reports, managing the release of information to the public, and submitting crime data to the State of Colorado. These actions play a critical role in promoting transparency and building trust within the community.

In 2025, they processed 563 record requests, many of which involved multiple reports. The year also brought additional changes to the department, which included the implementation of a new system that improved communication between dispatch and the records system.

While the Records Department works behind the scenes, their assistance is fundamental to serving the community!

We’ll see you next week as we continue to take you behind the curtain!

continues to take you behind the curtains to look at each division within the Fort Morgan Police Department.

This week’s focus is on our Code Enforcement division.

In 2025, code enforcement responded to over 4,000 calls for service.

🅿 1,528 Parking violations
🌿 731 W**d violations
🚘 286 Abandoned vehicles

What we don’t see in this list are the calls addressing animal-related violations. One such case had code enforcement officers coordinating animal care and securing an appropriate shelter placement for several cats, dogs, birds, and reptiles after they were removed from a residence due to severe neglect and abuse.

From managing the safety of our animal companions to ensuring Fort Morgan remains compliant with city code, these individuals work tirelessly to help keep our community a city of choice for ourselves and future generations.

Come back next week, as we take you inside the Fort Morgan Police Department.
