I always love helping out our great staff with lessons from our GM and assistant pros, to our cart staff and rangers. This morning I had a lesson with Martin, one of our starters/rangers. He's a 70 'something' year old, and has never had a lesson with me or anyone.

His first few swings here that I got on video, I couldn't help but smile knowing that he would improve dramatically when we just worked on his set-up. If I've seen it once, I've seen it a million times in 44 years of teaching. If you stand there poorly, you're going to hit a poor shot! It's amazing how much a golfer can improve if you simply improve their set-up. Martin's aim, 'slouch' and being ahead of the ball during his set-up was interfering with his swing which actually wasn't too bad. When he saw himself side-by-side with Tiger and Ben Crenshaw, the differences were so noticible.

During my 5 years working under Ken Venturi I certainly learned the importance of the address position. He said, and I say in nearly every lesson that most amateurs will never have the power, flexibility, or speed of a Tour Pro, but there's no reason they can't 'set-up' as good as they do. Martin had a golf swing in there, but it couldn't show itself with his set-up.

We got him setting up like a pro and within a shot or two he started nailing them dead straight and solid and picked up a lot of distance. His swing improved because his set-up improved.

The excitment he had, and the smile on his face made my whole day!!

Karen's been away in Orlando for four days, attending a work conference. I always miss her when she's gone.

I posted last week about finding some 'Estrella' beer at the local Publix which they've never carried before. It's the beer made in Barcelona that we had when we were there last month and it's delicious! I had one for my own happy hour yesterday and was so amazed and happy how the taste and smell of it took me right back to being with her in Spain. But then it was also a bit melancholy having the beer but not her, so I texted her these pics.

She comes home later today, and it seems this morning's sunrise, complete with the moon and the bird flying are even starting the day off great!
