Shark Fishing in Fort Myers — What to Expect on a Nearshore Charter

Shark fishing is one of those experiences where people come in a little nervous and leave absolutely hooked.

Fort Myers nearshore waters — roughly 2 to 8 miles out — hold a solid variety of shark species throughout the summer. Blacktip and spinner sharks are the most common from June through September. Bull sharks show up in the passes and nearshore structure year-round.

On a shark charter, Captain Erik will typically:
- Use heavy-duty spinning gear and braided line
- Set out chunk bait over structure or near ray schools
- Target spots that he's personally scouted and fished for years
