Sea turtles after Ian
After a storm, you may see young sea turtles tangled in seaweed on the shore or in places they don’t belong like pools or yards. This is because hatchlings make their initial multi-mile ocean journey to find floating plants for food and shelter, which can be carried onshore by storm currents and wind. Sea turtles hatch with a yolk that gives them just enough energy to find floating seaweed or other material so if they get washed back onto shore, they are unlikely to survive another long, offshore journey. If you find one of these small “washback” sea turtles, do not attempt to put it back in the ocean! Had a great time doing a sightseeing tour last Wednesday! We went to Big Hickory Island and saw manatees, dolphins, and did a little shelling! Then we went to the lighthouse beach park on Sanibel to see the sights and go swimming! A great day boozing and cruising and having fun in the sun!
