Surge protection during (and after) the storm.



Hurricanes and tropical storms lead to lots of questions about surge protection, so we’re going to take a moment to go over some options for protecting your equipment. There are 3 main avenues for surge to damage your devices: electrical, internet, and low voltage cabling (data lines, alarm lines, camera lines, etc). Electrical surges can be caused by issues at the power generations plant, lightning, or even malfunctioning devices in your home. Internet and low voltage typically come from lightning, and it doesn’t even have to hit the line! Lightning strikes several miles away can fry computers, alarm systems, camera systems, and even TVs. Luckily, there are several ways to remediate these issues. For high voltage, use surge protection on any valuable device, and battery backups on devices sensitive to fluctuations. You can also unplug devices during bad storms provided they are easily accessible. We also provide whole home panel surge protectors, but make sure you still use smaller units for individual devices!
