Why do we harp about trimming your wicks at Guilty Pleasure Scent Co?

If there’s one candle tip we wish everyone would follow, it’s this: trim your wick.

It’s a tiny step that makes a big difference.

A trimmed wick helps your candle burn slower, which means you can get 10+ extra hours out of it. It also keeps the flame at the right size, giving you a cleaner burn all the way to the edges without tunneling.

You’ll have a cleaner burn. A smaller flame means less carbon buildup, which means less soot and a cleaner-looking jar. Untrimmed wicks will soot 100% of the time.

Most importantly, an overgrown wick creates a larger flame than your candle was designed for making it burn hot. Trimming it to about ¼ inch before each burn helps keep your candle burning safely and performing the way it should.
