What Caused Monday’s Internet Outage?

When Amazon Web Services glitched this Monday, the internet trembled and many online services went offline.

The cause:
A DNS failure in AWS’s US-East-1 region—basically the internet’s “address book” stopped working.
When it failed, thousands of websites and apps couldn’t “find” their servers.

From streaming platforms to business apps, many went dark for hours.
It was a reminder that even the biggest cloud systems can crash.

Fun fact:
Wi-Fi devices communicate using radio waves to transmit data wirelessly. Once the signal reaches the device, the information itself is expressed in binary code (0’s and 1’s). Every letter, number, or symbol you type is represented as a unique binary sequence using standards like ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange).

Here’s an example of how it works:

Word: HELLO

ASCII codes for each letter:
• H → 72
• E → 69
• L → 76
• L → 76
• O → 79

Binary Representation (8-bit ASCII):
• H = 01001000
• E = 01000101
• L = 01001100
