In case you missed it, Friday is Red Thread Farm’s last day for 2025. We’ll be open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

We’ve been working hard to get the farm store stocked with fresh greens and fall produce for the big day. Visit the “Shop” page on our website to see what we’ve harvested. We think you’ll be pleased!

We are currently sold out of eggs and Georgia candy roaster squash, but we have a few more getting delivered around 12:00 noon.

Also note that Meadow Flower Farm is planning to bring extra evergreen wreaths in the morning. Get ‘em while they last.

What About Meat?
Laureen from Cove Creek Farm will be onsite from noon until 4:00 pm to hand out turkeys to those who preordered. Sadly, turkeys are completely sold out. However, she has agreed to bring extra supply of whole pastured chicken along with any available grassfed beef steaks, roasts and ground beef. She also plans to have a wide variety of pastured pork products, too.

Our farm store is completely sold out of meat. If that’s what you’re looking for, be sure to come after 12:00 noon and make a beeline to see Laureen.

If you ordered a pastured turkey and/or any items during our online preorder this week, we will be onsite to assist you. Pickup hours are Friday afternoon, 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

Whew, that’s it. See you tomorrow!

When we think of broccoli, most people immediately think about the crowns like those pictured here. Did you know the entire broccoli plant is edible? What’s more, each part of the plant has a different nutrient profile. Following are tips on how to make the most of this delectable plant.

Crowns. A broccoli plant produces one central crown, which is actually a big cluster of green flower buds. These florets are high in amino acids, glucoraphanin, and glucosinolates, along with good amounts of vitamin C and calcium.

Stems. Don’t toss the stem from your broccoli crown. This nutritious part of the plant also contains the highest amount of dietary fiber. Use a vegetable peeler to remove any tough skin and cook along with the crown. You can also enjoy it raw with hummus or ranch dip.

Shoots. After harvesting the central crown, the broccoli plant produces side stems with tender little clusters of florets. Steam or bake the entire shoot along with attached leaves or enjoy raw just like the crown.

Leaves. We saved the best for last. Leaves are the most nutrient dense part of the broccoli plant. They are highest in antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and K, calcium, and carotenoids. Treat them pretty much the same as kale or collard greens by using raw as a wrap or sauteing as a side dish. The options are endless.

Whether you are shopping broccoli from our farm or harvesting it from your own backyard garden, we think broccoli is one of the most underappreciated vegetables around. The RTF farm store is stocked today with crowns, shoots and leaves for your culinary adventures!
