Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 🇺🇸

At East Frederick Rising, we recognize that building stronger communities through service, unity, and investment reflects the very values Memorial Day represents. As we work to support East Frederick’s residents, businesses, and future growth, we remain grateful for those whose sacrifices made our communities and opportunities possible.

Last night at the Carroll Creek refresh, community members met the design team and gathered to discuss repairs to the hardscape, plantings and a shade structure for the amphitheater. The subject area is divided into three ‘rooms’. Room A covers the western area of Carroll Creek near Mullinex Park, and was envisioned to strengthen its identity as a “true shade garden, designed to thrive with the mature tree canopy.”

Room B covered the amphitheater and areas between Market and East Street, and would receive the first phase of plantings and a new shade structure. The conversation centered on different design options and explanations were given as to how the structures would need to avoid interfering with the flood-control conduits located under the amphitheater.

Room C covers the area East of East Street, and was not well defined in terms of identity. Maybe because East Frederick is still being defined and redefined. However, the recommendation did call for shade tree plantings and sweeping grasses, giving “broad sweeps of feathery texture”, adding movement to the area, while allowing the possibility to transform into more of a shade garden as the trees mature.

Thanks to the Ausherman Family Foundation, the Downtown Frederick Partnership, and the City of Frederick for inviting the public to participate in deciding the future designs that will characterize and strengthen the identity of Frederick for all who visit and enjoy Carroll Creek.
