It was such a pleasure to be at City of Brunswick, MD's Pride in the Park yesterday evening! Alongside Nathan Brown, Mayor of Brunswick, MD, I declared June as Pride Month, honoring the resilience of the LGBTQI+ community and the hard-won victories that have advanced acceptance and equality. Frederick County stands together to build on that progress for a better, more inclusive, and safer future for all. It was also great to see so many organizations and talented vendors sharing art, food, crafts, candles, and more, right alongside the Brunswick Main Street Farmers Market just steps away. I even bought artwork, earrings, and goods too!

Earlier this week, I joined the Frederick ManaBadi Telugu School convocation and celebrated the accomplishments of students learning Telugu, a language with centuries of rich history. Congratulations to Frederick ManaBadi on the successful completion of the academic year of 125 students. Frederick ManaBadi plays an important role in preserving language, culture, and community connections for local families, and we are grateful to the dedicated teachers, volunteers, and supporters whose commitment makes this program possible.

Had a great afternoon at the Frederick Nonprofit Summit at Frederick Community College! Heard keynote speaker Glennda Testone from Nonprofit Leadership Lab share practical strategies for helping nonprofit leaders thrive in today’s environment of increasing need and limited funding. It was also a reminder that meaningful impact happens when people come together, regardless of title, to work toward common goals. The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow nonprofit and government leaders, exchange ideas, and discuss ways to strengthen partnerships that support and serve our communities, including initiatives such as the recent FEED Grants, a collaboration between the Community Foundation of Frederick County and Frederick County Government, MD.

Everyone deserves the chance to own a home and build a secure future! June marks National Homeownership Month and I am proud to recognize the programs and partnerships that help make that possible for those in Frederick County. Through initiatives like the Homebuyer Assistance Program and Housing Rehabilitation Programs, Frederick County Division of Housing is helping families achieve homeownership and supporting homeowners in maintaining safe, stable housing, creating opportunities for residents to put down roots and invest in their future.

Frederick County is grateful to work alongside many community partners who share a commitment to expanding access to homeownership. Together, we are helping ensure that the dream of owning a home remains within reach for everyone across Frederick County.
