🎶 Meet One of the Leaders of Our Strings Section 🎶
Bay Philharmonic is proud to spotlight Wendy Tamis, our Principal Harpist!
The harp is one of the world’s oldest instruments, with a history dating back thousands of years. Known for its beautiful, shimmering sound, the harp can create everything from gentle melodies to dramatic orchestral effects, adding a unique color to the orchestra.
✨ Fun Fact: The modern concert harp has 47 strings and 7 pedals, allowing harpists to instantly change notes and keys while they play!
Another fun fact? The harp is sometimes considered both a string instrument and a percussion instrument. While it officially belongs to the string family because sound is produced by vibrating strings, the strings are plucked by the musician’s fingers, giving it qualities that some compare to percussion instruments.
As Principal Harpist, Wendy leads the harp section and brings elegance, color, and artistry to the Bay Philharmonic’s sound.
