Last night's storm unfortunately did some major damage around Fremont.

Today, our crew has been out helping homeowners deal with the cleanup. This tree split during the storm and came down across two vehicles. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

A healthy-looking tree can still have stressed roots.

One thing we run into pretty often is soil compaction. Heavy foot traffic, construction, equipment, and even years of mowing around the same area can pack the soil down and make it harder for roots to get air and water.

Most homeowners never realize the issue is happening underground until the tree starts struggling above ground.

The good news is soil work can be done almost any time of year as long as the ground isn’t frozen.

Before we recommend removing a tree, we look at what’s going on below the surface first.

A lot of homeowners have never heard of root flare issues or girdling roots, but we see them all the time. We’ve been uncovering a lot of buried root flare issues lately that homeowners had no idea were there. Sometimes a tree that looks “fine” above ground is slowly struggling because the roots are starting to wrap around the trunk underground.

That’s the kind of stuff most people never see until the tree starts declining years later.
